Thoughts on Code Phrases and Villain Monologues

Greetings,

Recently I have been thinking about Code Phrases or Go Words. A lot of great detective duos have a catchy Go Word. Like Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have Vatican Cameos, Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Kain have The Sparrow Flies South for Winter. So I wanted one for our illustrious detectives. I wanted it to be something factual but still kinda silly.

This then led down a two-hour rabbit hole of going through common idioms, famous code phrases, call signs for truckers, and police codes. Let's just say that there are a lot of um. But none of them had that silly factor. It needs to be something out of the blue. Oliver would say this in the middle of a conversation to confuse the opponent. So after spending hours looking for something I settled on 'Nutmeg is a hallucinogen ' I found it on a weird facts website and it made me giggle. Now I'm not going to tell you when it appears in the book but it's in there.

I continued my rewrites and it had become apparent that I hadn't given Twelve his grand Villain Monologue. Like this is a big moment. Sure we have had the odd snide comment and, what I like to call, The Light Yagami inner monologue. However, the thing that makes the inner monologue is at some point it becomes an Outer Monologue and the fact that Twelve is so Egotistical means that he has to fall into that cliche. So that's basically where I am at with the book. just some thoughts.
